Sky, new competitor for Netflix and HBO

Netflix and HBO already have a new competitor in the Spanish market of television in streaming. Since Monday, and after many months of rumors, the British chain Sky lands in Spain with a monthly subscription of 10 euros.

In exchange for 30 cents a day, the first month is free, "the service includes the best payment channels, television series, and films on demand worldwide, mostly in HD quality," said Sky in a statement.

As its competitors, the British forget the contract and with a simple registration process will be able to access its catalog on Android devices, iOS, web and its small streaming device, Sky TV Box, whose price is 25 euros.

Sky is not available as an app for SmartTV or Chromecast, so far

"At Sky we have been offering the best entertainment and cutting-edge latest technology news to our customers for many years, making us Europe's largest streaming service platform. Our customers in Italy, the UK, Ireland, Germany, and Austria already enjoy of the freedom of streaming without a contract, and we are excited to bring our service to Spanish consumers, "says Andrew Griffith, COO Sky.

However, Sky lands in Spain months later of the arrival of Netflix and HBO, that along with the great operators like Movistar, Orange and Vodafone they distribute the cake of the monthly subscriptions of the pockets of the Spaniards.

With 10 euros, the British equal the offer of Netflix, although the Sky catalog puts the accent on live payment channels. At the moment, it will offer 12 channels of payment through its application and are the following: FOX, FOX Life, TNT, History, Syfy, Disney Junior, Nickelodeon, TCM, Comedy Central, Calle 13, Disney XD and National Geographic.

Unlike Netflix and HBO, the British offer 12 live payment channels

In addition to being able to see them live, the user can store the contents online for 30 days. The option, new to Netflix or HBO, but which already include platforms such as Movistar, allows access once they have passed 24 hours of their first broadcast, but the offline mode is not available.

The catalog is completed with more than 50 complete series including The Walking Dead, Heroes, The Tudor, Justified and others in incomplete version, since the rights in Spain are sold to other platforms, such as Gray's Anatomy.

"Through a simple and intuitive solution, with the latest live or on-demand shows, access to the latest series or enjoy hundreds of blockbusters, the new service has something for everyone", emphasizes David Nunez, director of Market Development in Spain.

Not for everyone
Sky to date will only come for iPhone, iPad and all devices equipped with the Android system, but will not do so on SmartTV or Chromecast systems.

Its bet is Sky TV Box where the app of the British television is installed next to Sky News, Youtube or Vevo among others. This small device connects to any television, regardless of whether it is SmartTV Tech News, and only needs an HDMI input.

Finally, Sky has also confirmed that its monthly service of 10 euros allows 3 screens at a time and in HD.

Underwater Electricity May Have Originated Life on Earth

Underwater Electricity May Have Originated Life on Earth

If fully verified, this new hypothesis would drastically change the methods of searching for extraterrestrial life

The origin of life on Earth could be found in natural power plants 1,000 meters deep on the seabed, according to a finding by a group of Japanese scientists confirmed & show the Live Science.

A team from Japan's JAMSTEC and the Japanese research institute Riken discovered electric currents from several hundred naturally occurring mini volts near hydrothermal vents. The finding was made 150 kilometers from the island of Okinawa.

"This (uncovered) electricity is the source of several organic reactions to the synthesis of biological molecules, such as amino acids, sugars, and lipids," he said. EFE researcher Masahiro Yamamoto told JAMSTEC.

The study showed that when hot water from the underwater hydrothermal vents - chirps or fumaroles on the seafloor - is cooled, a movement of electrons occurs, which translates into the formation of electricity.

Earth Has Its Origin

The theory that life on Earth has its origin in the deep sea, near hydrothermal springs, already existed, but this research claims that the electricity generated around them played a fundamental role.

The hydrothermal fluid (hot water) from these submarine sources contains many gases, such as hydrogen sulfide, and metal ions, such as iron and copper.

Following the same mechanism used by fuel cells - used, for example, in electric cars - hot, hydrogen-rich water can easily transfer electrons, and oxygen-rich marine water can receive them. generates an electric current and Live Science and technology news.

This discovery, which "brings a new perspective to the process of formation of mineral deposits and ecosystems," would open new doors in other areas.

For example, says Yamamoto, considering the possibility that life on Earth could be generated by the currents of the seabed, "the methods of exploring extraterrestrial life could be changed dramatically."
